From America's finest city (San Diego) and now residing in the entertainment capital of the world (Los Angeles), Cassandra Pimentel is a Filipina American Director/Writer most known for her festival selected short film PLAZA BLVD (2017), the web series IT'S NOT YOU, IT'S ME (2014) starring Yoshi Sudarso (Nickelodeon’s Power Rangers Dino Charge) and MyxTV's original digital series A.S.S. - A SCARY SLEEPOVER (2018) starring Thia Megia (American Idol, NBC's Days of Our Lives). PLAZA BLVD premiered at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, and to name a few, it was also a finalist at the FACINE Philippine Arts & Cinema International Film Festival and Los Angeles Cinefest.
Cassandra strives to incorporate culture and diversity in her projects; her short film, BATTLE OF THE STICKS (2016) shares the Filipino cultural dance, Tinikling. In her efforts to be a voice for inclusion, she participated in the 2019 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge and directed the short film TAKE IT BACK starring Santina Muha (Netflix One Day At A Time). Out of 71 film entries, Take It Back was 1 of 5 nominated for BEST FILM. The Take It Back cast and crew were also featured on CNN Entertainment, and RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad) "singled out “Take It Back” as a movie designed to change the perspective of how someone with a disability is viewed" (The Wrap).
Not only does Cassandra create film narratives, she also has a lot of fun directing music videos. In 2018 she had a blast directing The Filharmonic (NBC's The Sing Off, CBS's The Late Late show with James Corden) THIS CHRISTMAS music video featuring Spencer Ludwig. In the fall of 2019 Cassandra directed the music video TEACH ME TO LOVE for up and coming artist Jules Aurora .
She has also directed a live talk show on ABS CBN MyxTV - AND WE'RE LIVE - starring Trace Gaynor and Farina Aguinaldo. The first season featured guests such as Jules Aurora and Travis Atreo. Currently, she is in post production for the short film Morning Beautiful starring Dia Frampton (NBC's The Voice, Meg and Dia).
Cassandra built her feature film experience as the First Assistant Director on the film CHALK IT UP (NETFLIX) in 2014; From 2016 to 2018 she assisted Producer Deborah Del Prete (Wedding Planner, Ender’s Game) in producing the feature film LOCATING SILVER LAKE starring Josh Peck (Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh) and Finn Wittrock (LA LA Land, American Horror Story).
Cassandra wants to spread the excitement of representation and to share an abundance of diverse stories in mainstream media so that society can better understand, recognize and accept individual differences and uniqueness.
